Imagine the extent some people go all in a bid to make “too much money” and oppress others. This is one of the reason why those who have made money legitimately are not respected atimes in society as there is the temptation to lump all wealthy people as crooks, one way or the other. Buhari applauds armed forces resolve to speedily end insurgency, warns that Human rights violation will be punished

No comments :
Press statement from the presidency
President Muhammadu Buhari Saturday in Kaduna reaffirmed his administration’s total commitment to the rule of law and warned that proven acts of human rights violation by the Armed Forces will be punished under his leadership. Addressing officers, troops and newly commissioned cadets at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), President Buhari reminded them that the rule of law applied to the Armed Forces as much as any other institution in the country.
“I wish to remind you of the Federal Government’s commitment to overhaul the rules of engagement and improve operational and legal mechanisms so that disciplinary steps are taken against proven human rights violations by the armed forces. We are committed to a thorough investigation of recent and any future occurrences of human rights violations by elements of our Armed Forces. While I applaud the integrity and sterling record of the Armed Forces as an institution, this administration will insist on the rule of law, and deal with any proven cases of deviation from laws of armed conflict, including human rights abuses. In operational conduct Nigerians expect our Armed Forces to keep law and order, and not to behave like bullies. Let me reiterate this administration’s commitment to due process, merit and total observance of the rule of law as central pillars of a prosperous and democratic society. Rule of law as an element of good governance applies to the Armed Forces as much as any institution in our country. It is therefore gratifying that all three Services have recently taken steps to emphasize strict adherence to rules in recruitment, promotions, procurement, project executions and civil-military relations,” the President said at the passing out of Officer Cadets of the NDA’s 62 Regular Course and Short Service Course 43.

Observing that security remains the most important challenge in his Administration’s “Change” Programme, President Buhari said that the nation expects exemplary conduct and professionalism from officers and men of its Armed Forces at all times and in all situations.
“The objectives our fight against terrorism cannot be realized without a credible and effective military. You must avoid any behavior that will tarnish your honour and dignity as commissioned officers. Your commitment and loyalty to the Armed Forces and the nation must be total. I urge you to take your roles in the on-going process of rebuilding our Armed Forces very seriously,” President Buhari told the newly-commissioned officers.

Declaring that the Federal Government was pleased with the Armed Forces’ resolve to end the insurgency facing the country once and for all, President Buhari assured them of his Administration’s determination to ensure the speedy provision of platforms and equipment they require to win the war against terrorism and meet their long term needs.

With only $150k in savings, Buhari may be the least corrupt in Africa - Washington post

No comments :

Washington Post published an article over the weekend, saying that President Buhari may be the least corrupt leader in Africa after declaring that he has only N30 million in his account. The article below
"By the standards of sub-Saharan African leaders, Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari is dirt-poor. According to a statement released by his government, he has $150,000 in his savings account. He owns five homes and two mud houses, an orchard and ranch with 270 head of cattle, 25 sheep, five horses and a variety of birds. He has bought two cars from his savings..
"President Buhari had no foreign account, no factory and no enterprises. He also had no registered company and no oil wells," reads the statement released by the spokesman, Garba Shehu, describing the president's assets as "Spartan."

The question on many minds is this: Is Buhari, Nigeria's former military ruler and ex-head of the oil ministry, telling the truth?

Corruption, after all, is a major problem in Africa's largest economy. Buhari himself has publicly said that more than $150 billion is missing from the government's coffers. Still, the public declaration appears to be an attempt to show some much-needed transparency. Buhari was elected in March largely by promising that he wouldn't tolerate corruption.

What's clear is that Buhari has done what his predecessors — and most other African leaders — have never done.

Consider these five other African leaders. They have been labeled by Forbes Magazine as the  "five worst leaders in Africa."

1.  Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, president of Equatorial Guinea
He's Africa's longest-serving ruler, an autocrat who leads the tiny, oil-rich West African nation of Equatorial Guinea. Despite its vast natural wealth, the majority of its people live in deep poverty with no access to clean drinking water, proper educational or health facilities. One fifth of children die before age 5. The money has gone into the pockets of Mbasogo and his family. They own luxury properties in the United States and other countries, a private jet and a fleet of luxury cars.

2. José Eduardo dos Santos, president of Angola
He's Africa's second-longest-serving leader. Angola is the continent's second-largest oil producer, and one of the biggest suppliers of oil to the United States. It also has massive diamond deposits. Dos Santos's relatives hold key positions in his government and control a huge share of Angola's economy, amid widespread allegations of corruption. Nearly 70 percent  of the population lives in dire poverty, and a third of the nation's children are malnourished.

3. Robert Mugabe, president of Zimbabwe
He has ruled the southern African nation for a quarter-century. He was the architect of controversial policies, most notably the seizure of white-owned commercial farms. Though the country in recent years has seen an economic rebound, Mugabe remains one of the continent's most autocratic rulers. He wields nearly total control of government institutions, and his loyalists have used violence to retain control. Human rights abuses are rife, while unemployment remains among the highest in sub-Saharan Africa.

4. Omar Al-Bashir, president of Sudan
Bashir seized power in a bloodless military coup in 1989 and has since disbanded political parties, the nation's parliament and many privately-owned media outlets. Under his rule, civil war erupted, in which more than 1 million people were killed. Bashir is wanted by the International Criminal Court at the Hague on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity for his role in the killing and rape of civilians in Sudan's Darfur region. A U.S. diplomatic cable, leaked by Wikileaks, unveiled that Bashir may have stolen as much as $9 billion from state coffers and deposited it into his private bank accounts in Great Britain.

5.  King Mswati III, king of Swaziland
He is the continent's last reigning monarch, presiding over a nation with one of the world's highest HIV rates, where average life expectancy — 33 years — is among the lowest in the world. Despite his people's suffering, the king leads a lavish life with a taste for luxury cars, first-class travel and expensive parties, even as the nation's economy is in dire straits.

Buhari has sent a strong message that 'corruption is no longer fashionable' - Atiku

No comments :
Press statement from former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, below...
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the first 100 days in office of President Muhammadu Buhari has reinforced his confidence, that despite the perceived slow pace, “Nigeria is on the path of progress and bright future.”
In a press statement released by his media office in Abuja on Friday, 4 September, 2015, the former Vice President noted that the first 100 days in office of President Muhammadu Buhari clearly indicated that Nigeria is witnessing a marked departure from the culture of impunity, inertia and apathy in governance.

According to Atiku, even within the first 100 days, Nigerians could clearly see real proofs that the country is already moving in the right direction, which he attributed to President Buhari’s leadership by example style.

He said the President’s body language has sent strong and unmistakable message that the era of impunity was over, and that “corruption is no longer fashionable.”
The former Vice President explained that when leaders lead by example, they could automatically inspire public confidence, which he said is a condition for the success of any government policy.
According to Atiku, the Buhari administration has so far succeeded in blocking revenue leakages and diversions, which feed corruption.
The Turaki of Adamawa, who said he was proud to be part of the change movement, said there are enough examples that President Buhari is making a difference.
He said the Boko Haram terrorists are for the first time facing a fiercer response from newly motivated armed forces, adding that the terrorists are in disarray because of the new offensive strategy adopted by the government.
The former Vice President appealed to Nigerians to show more patience with President Buhari because some major reforms might take time, but the country would ultimately be a better place.
Atiku said the level of poverty and unemployment in Nigeria is inconsistent with its oil wealth, explaining that corruption is the biggest obstacle to development.
The former Vice President said President Buhari has boosted his optimism that Nigeria would rebound again.

Man rapes 6 year old girl while she was in church with her family

No comments :
A registered sex-offender allegedly carried off a six-year-old who was in church with her family and sexually assaulted her in a bathroom while he stifled her screams. William Brandon Coffey is accused of grabbing the girl while she was on her way to the toilet at the Body of Hope Church in Raleigh in North Carolina on Tuesday.

Court documents state he carried her to the men's bathroom and "covered the mouth of the victim when she attempted to scream".

When he had finished assaulting her he then kissed her and let her go, according to Investigator A. J. Doughty.

When the girl came back to her parents, Doughty wrote, they saw that she had urinated on herself and asked what had happened.
They called police, but Coffey had left the church before officers arrived.

Coffey, who appeared in court yesterday, is being remanded in custody.

According to court documents, he served two years and three months in prison for kidnapping and molesting a 9-year-old girl at a north Raleigh apartment complex in May of 2009.

Raleigh police said he encountered the girl as she was walking from the pool. Authorities said Coffey "touched her inappropriately."

In a statement, Body of Christ Church said that while it has stringent procedures in place for all personnel working with children, Coffey was not a church member and was visiting a men's Bible study group when the alleged attack happened.

"Our ultimate concern and care now and has always been for the child and family involved," it said.

Former Governor Amaechi says he can't be probed

No comments :
Former Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, says no anti-corruption agency in the country can probe him. He made this statement due to reports that Amechi along with some Gov were being probed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and related offences Commission, ICPC.

However, Chief Tony Okocha, a former aide to Amaechi, said that the former governor was not afraid of ICPC or the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission as long as the probe was not a witch-hunt.
Okocha, however, recalled that the ICPC and the EFCC had not vacated a court order stopping any of them from investigating any Rivers Government official and as such could not probe him.
He stated:
“I have always said that Amaechi is not afraid of the EFCC or the ICPC as long as such probe is not a witch-hunt. Again, there is a court order that the EFCC or other agency like it cannot probe any government official in the state. Wike is a beneficiary of that court order.
“Until that court order is vacated, the ICPC or the EFCC have no right to investigate Amaechi. Since what they are going to investigate is his (Amaechi’s) activities while in government, the EFCC and the ICPC do not have such right to do so based on the standing court order.”

Texas woman who tweeted cop deserved to be murdered arrested for assault

No comments :
Monica Foy, a Sam Houston State University student, has come under fire for a tweet she sent out in the wake of the shooting death of Harris County deputy Darren Goforth. Foy’s tweet questioned why so many people cared about Goforth’s death and suggested that he might have deserved to be shot. She also wrote that Goforth had “creepy perv eyes.”

Once social media got wind of the tweet it went viral and Foy soon deleted the tweet. The most recent tweet on her feed came Tuesday morning and simply said “#blacklivesmatter.” Her entire account has now since been deleted.
Late Tuesday night her Twitter mentions were full of angry messages regarding her tweet.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Brady Fitzgerald confirmed on Wednesday that they received a call stating that Foy had an outstanding warrant for assault causing bodily harm out of Harris County.
She was arrested at her home in the county after deputies checked the system.
Montgomery County jail officials confirmed that Monica Foy was arrested on Tuesday evening for an arrest warrant out of Harris County. The warrant was for a 2011 charge of assault with bodily injury, a misdemeanor charge. She was held for several hours and then released on a $1,000 bond in the early morning hours.
The criminal information document, obtained from public records revealed that on August 21, 2011, Monica Foy allegedly assaulted a former co-worker by striking him repeatedly about the head and face with her closed fist. The court document states that Foy “struck him about the head and face with a closed fist several times, causing him pain and discomfort. The complainant advised during the course of the assault, his eyeglasses were knocked off his face, and the inside of his mouth was cut as a result of being punched by the defendant.”

Foy's reportedly was a student at Sam Houston State University.

SHSU issued a short statement on Tuesday in response to the incident on the school's Facebook page:
“SHSU appreciates the enormous public response in support of law enforcement. The university is a leader in educating many people who work in criminal justice and those who protect the civil liberties this country was founded upon, including free speech, whether we agree with that speech or not.”

Foy is an English major at the school, according to the Montgomery County Police Reporter.
Julia May, spokesperson for SHSU, said Wednesday that the school is still evaluating the situation.
“We are conducting a rigorous evaluation to determine if she violated any laws or policies as a student,” said May. There has been some concern from alumni about Foy’s actions considering that the school is known for its heavy amount of law enforcement majors. Students are noting that this not indicative of their viewpoints.
“We are a place of open dialog and discussion but this opinion is not representative of the university community at all,” May added.
